The road to college for athletes is no longer lined with traditional mile markers. It used to be that goals and assists per game, speed, technical capabilities paved the way for sports stars. Nowadays, one more percentage is carrying more and more weight. It’s called the grade point average.
A seminar to prepare parents and athletes for the recruiting road ahead — complete with all its bumps — will be held at Cypress Hall in Coral Springs, Wednesday, February 11, beginning at 7:30 p.m. The seminar will provide information and topics for every student-athlete from the age of 14-19 and their parents to educate and prepare them for opportunities and careers after graduation. Many student-athletes who aspire to play at the college level are not familiar with the ins and outs of academic requirements and eligibility, as they need to be in order to pursue their goals.
The CSUFC College Recruitment Seminar will be presented by Munga Eketebi, Men's Soccer Coach for Broward College. This seminar will provide families with information about the availability of athletic scholarships and the realities of the college recruiting process.
Presenter Note: Munga Eketebi was three-time all-American as part of the FIU’s 1984 Division II national championship team and the 1985 national champion runner-up team. After his playing days concluded, Munga has had head coaching responsibilities for Florida International University and Nova Southeastern University. Munga Eketebi knows South Florida’s soccer community and is a popular figure in this area.
